Select a term from your field.

Write an extended definition for a first-year student in the field. For this
portion of the assignment, use at least one outside reference and cite the
reference appropriately. Use APA (American Psychological Association)
parenthetical references (in-text citations) for citing within the text of your
response. Use the APA References (bibliography) examples for the end of the
piece (Gerson & Gerson pp. 456-461).

Be careful about letting Microsoft Word do your citations, sometimes it does
them incorrectly.
List the types of expansion techniques you used (minimum of two different
techniques for each expansion).

Write an extended definition for a layperson. For this portion of the
assignment, use at least one outside reference and cite the reference
appropriately (both within the document and on the citation page). Please use a
standard source, not Wikipedia. Some of the best sources are industry or
academic associations that deal with the topic.

List the types of expansion techniques you used (minimum of two different
techniques for each expansion). In addition, give a summary explanation of your
changes (not a summary of the definition). A summary explanation will include
what you changed from one definition to the other and why you changed it.

Refer to Module 2.

Be careful about saying things like: The dictionary definition of… Or, Webster’
s definition of…. That’s too easy. In addition, there are many Webster’s
dictionaries, and if you ever use one, must identify it specifically: the
Merriam-Webster New Collegiate Dictionary, Webster’s II New Riverside
Dictionary, Encyclopedia Britannica Online, etc.
