Once you’ve chosen your position, you should begin researching it. Remember this is a philosophy class, so we are interested in the quality of the argument you make, not your rhetorical skills. It is a good idea to identify three arguments in favor of the position you are taking as well as making note of what you think are the two or three most important objections to your position. Then you’ll want to think about how you might rebut those objections.
Find three good, reliable sources that you can use to help you prepare for the debate. To receive full credit here, it is important that your sources be reliable sources. This means that you should avoid advocacy websites that support only one side of the question or unfairly represent opposing arguments.
Submit a list of these three sources in good bibliographic form along with two or three sentences for each source in which you explain why it is a good, reliable source of information.
This assignment is worth 40% of the debate requirement (or four points on your semester average). It is important that you review the rubric that I will use to grade your submission before completing this assignment. Scroll to find it below.
Please use the following headings for your submission:
Resolution Chosen [type in the resolution you chose along with the position you are taking on the resolution, either pro or con] *Resolved: Given the extent and severity of evil in the world, it is reasonable to believe that God exists. (For this resolution.)
